Upper Green of Newbury, MA

The settlement grew rapidly and, a decade later, an Upper Green was created about 3 miles further along the current Route 1A and became the center of current Newbury.

The house built by Rev. James Noyes about 1646 is at 5 Parker Street, at the edge of the Upper Green and about 100 yards to your left. Just beyond along Route 1A, on your left traveling to the north, stands the First Parish Church of Newbury gathered by Rev. Parker and Rev. Noyes and the first settlers. Just beyond the First Parish Church is the Tristram Coffin House, an historical landmark open to the public.
